Slingyroo!

What exactly is a Slingyroo?
A Slingyroo is a bag made out of your favorite woven wrap.
The strap is nice and wide, just like the straps would be on a wrap conversion mei tai (WCMT), so you are able to spread the weight of your bag across your shoulders, just as you would a carrier.
Much like a wrap conversion ring sling, your Slingyroo also fastens with a pair of metal sling rings so you can adjust the wide strap to suit the length that you need.

Check out the instructions, for multiple ways to wear your Slingyroo.

This beautiful bag is not only for babywearers.
In fact, anyone can appreciate the beauty of this bag.
I wear it cross-body, and spread the strap over my shoulder nice and wide.
I often suffer from shoulder pain, old rugby injuries you know, and with this bag I feel no pain.
Often, when I am wearing a purse I have to switch sides every now and then because my shoulders start to ache. I love how with this bag, I feel no ache at all. Love it.

Babywear-ers however, will especially love this bag because not only can you get it to match your favorite wrap, but you can wear it WITH your carrier.

Your bag can be worn cross-body under your sling, woven wrap or soft shelled carrier comfortably. No more straps over your baby's face, or slipping off of your shoulder. You can go completely hands free in comfort!
In my photos above, I am wearing my Northern Lights Slingyroo right under my wrap conversion ring sling.

Wearababy has introduced an awesome brand new Slingyroo:
The DOUBLE STRAP Slingyroo.

Pictured above in the ever-gorgeous Girasol Northern Lights.
Now your favorite bag can be worn with the straps crossed in the back for added support and comfort.
Awesome, hey?

Choose from PAXbaby.com's in stock Slingyroos: http://shop.paxbaby.com/slingyroo/

Or
Simply send an email to: orders@wearababy.com
  • You pick the woven wrap of your liking
  • Pick a second choice, just in case your first choice is unavailable
  • Include any other wishes that you may have (for example the color of the rings, shorter or longer shoulder strap)
Made to order bags can take up to 4 weeks but I'm telling you... the wait is so worth it.
After mine was complete, it took less than 2 weeks for it to get to me in Vancouver, BC Canada from Finland.
CRAZY! I can barely send something across Canada and have it arrive that quickly.
I was thoroughly impressed.

I was sent an awesome Slingyroo in Northern Lights to try.
Drool.

I was actually surprised at how much I  could fit inside my Slingyroo bag without it feeling too heavy or looking too stuffed.

All packed up.

What was all inside, with room to spare.

Northern Lights was the very first woven wrap I ever wrapped my new Baby#3 in, so it is a wrap I hold close to my heart.

Now even when my daughter outgrows being carried and worn, I can still wear my NL Slingyroo and think of when she was a teeny, tiny squishy.
Sigh.
Beautiful.

Thank you SO much to Niina at Wearababy.com for sending me this beautiful bag to try out.
I love it.

Introducing:

Moa Po

Based out of Quebec,  Myriam Duchesneau has been the creativity behind this amazing Canadian company since 2007.

Moa pô is best known for their amazing hand-made coat the "Mama Parka".
The Mama Parka is built to last a lifetime, including throughout pregnancy, and can accommodate a baby carrier either worn on the front or the back.
The best thing is, this coat is FAR from dorky.
It is actually BEAUTIFUL, hip, and stylish.
This is definitely NOT you average babywearing coat that's for sure.
Sounds too good to be true, right?
See for yourself:

The exterior of the Mama Parka is made of wool-felt, while the lining is luscious satin.
Mmmm.
Would you not love to wrap up in one all winter long?
Read more about the Mama Parka here: http://moapo.ca/MAMAPARKA-1

However, Moa pô is more than just a company with beautiful handmade coats.

They also carry:

and MORE,
such as clothes for children 3months-6years.

"The" Review:

I was lucky enough to get to try an awesome Moa Po made with these rich & sparkly colours:

The Moa Po mei tai carrier is an asian style carrier made from soft and strong organic cotton twill with unbleached cotton padding, all fabric dyes and eco-friendly treatments.

It's good to know that I do not need to worry about harsh chemicals, or dyes leeching into my baby's mouth if she decides to suck on the fabric of the carrier (which happens quite often in this house... the sucking on wrap straps, not the chemical leeching).

Mei tai carriers have been around for centuries.
These carriers can be safely worn on your back, front or even side.
Don't worry, a DVD is included with every Moa pô, chalk full of video demonstrations so you can figure out exactly what you are doing before you try anything with your baby.
Safety first, babywearers!!
(Remember to try all new carries over a soft surface such as a bed, and/or have a spotter available).
If you lose your DVD have no fear, there is always youtube.

The Moa Po 2013 collection is wearable art at its finest.

Dublin, Paris, Amsterdam, Vancouver
Circling the globe has never been so easy with these fun, travel inspired prints of 2013.

Which is your favorite?

I LOVE the Vancouver one, although it is missing mountains, the ocean and, well, RAINDROPS.
April showers must be bringing a heap of May flowers is all I can say about that.

What I LOVE about our Moa pô carrier is the versatility it brings.
I can go from wearing our 2.5year old, 29lber to wearing our 6month old, 16lber in a flash.
It is as easy as putting one down and picking up the other.
Both are equally as comfortable, and equally as supported.
And it is EASY.

(I should technically have the shoulder straps more on my shoulders, to avoid that creeping up the neck thing that is happening in these photos.Easily fixed though, man I need to invest in a photographer so I can get better product shots. *wink*)

The straps are lightly padded, and flare out into wider wrap style straps so they can be spread for added support, while still helping achieve the knee to knee positioning on an older child.
The straps themselves, are new and improved: long, large and wide to help with long-lasting comfort from 9lbs-35lbs, so your child will not grow out of this carrier for a very.long.time..

Sorry for the crooked photo.

The actual body of the carrier is nice and light and feels not only trim in your hands but on your body, as well. The improved contoured body shape helps to get baby in the proper positioning with minimal effort on your part, baby seems to just fall into place.
I was worried that the contours would make the carrier feel somewhat smaller in the body, but was pleasantly surprised when that was not the case. As I said before, both my girls were equally as comfortable in it, as was I, and felt pretty much weightless for me.
Bonus: no "diggy" straps either.

The carrier could not have come at a better time, as this past week BOTH of my smallest had been feeling under the weather and wanting up for snuggles.

My Moa Po even helped me do skin to skin contact today whilst wearing my youngest.
Close enough to kiss definitely came in handy with this croupy little lady.

That is another awesome thing about babywearing, your little one can sleep upright where you can keep a close eye on them at all times! Baby sleeps peacefully and can be easily monitored.

The neck/head support can be tied to the shoulder straps as well for added support for a sleeping baby's heavy head to rest against.

Because of its trim nature, this light-weight carrier can be folded or rolled up and easily stored in a diaper bag, or under the seat of your car for easy access at all times. Toss it in the bottom of your stroller even, and use your stroller to cart around your purse and groceries haha.

All in all a beautifully made, unique looking Canadian carrier.

Definitely has my seal of approval.

Thank you Moa Po for letting us try one of your beautiful creations, I cannot wait to see what you come out with next.

Fait Pour Toi

I first discovered fait pour toi at an outdoor farmer's market in Vancouver, BC earlier this Spring.
My children shyly looked at the dolls but since it was the first sunny day in awhile (gah rainy Vancouver), the market was crowded and we did not stay long. I picked up a business card and we went on our way, but I could not get the sweet dolls out of my head.

I emailed Anne-Marie later that week, and through talking back and forth, got to learn a bit about her amazing little dolls.

Each one is hand-made with love, and completely different from the next. In all her years of doll making, Anne-Marie has never made two dolls the same, so you are guaranteed to get a completely special and unique doll. What I love the most, is that each piece of fabric and notion used in the doll, has a history perhaps not history known to us, but history nonetheless. All of the fabrics used come from Anne-Marie's past, whether it be a piece cut from one of her old dresses or shirts, or buttons from her grandmother's old coat. Each doll has a story to tell.

You can even send in a piece of your own fabric and she will use it to create a special doll just for you or your child. What an awesome way to hold onto a special dress, outfit or blankie that your child outgrows.

Each doll, is carefully stitched, embroidered and pieced together by Anne herself and the  fabrics and stuffing are soft, and totally huggable. No rough edges, no giant plastic heads, and no tiny accessories to swallow or lose.

I would much rather spend my hard earned dollars on a beautiful handmade doll for my children over a store-bought generic one, any day.
Supporting local artisans do what they love means so much, both for them and for us.
What a way to bring home the "bacon"!

Anne-Marie kindly invited us to meet up with her at an amazing local indie craft/art fair called  Make It Vancouver where we could meet in person and my daughter could choose her very own doll.
She even sent us coupons in the mail so we would get a discount on the entry fee.

Let me just say, Anne is THE SWEETEST ever. For real.

Not only was she working on her BIRTHDAY (don't worry, we brought her macaroons), but she was happy about it. Her heart seems to genuinely be in her community and in her dolls.
Meeting in person was like meeting up with an old friend.
She not only greeted my children with open arms, but got down to their level and rooted around through bins along side them. She never once rushed them either. AND BOY were there bins, bins filled to the BRIM! She had been BUSY getting ready for the fair, that's for sure.
My cupcake was overwhelmed.
Bin after bin of beautiful dollies for her to look at, touch, hug and kiss, and if you know my Cupcake, she absolutely LOOOOVES dolls.
She would choose one, and then another, and then another.
She just could not decide.
I don't blame her, each one was more adorable than the next.
We just let her do her thing, though I secretly hoped that she would choose a little boy.

Are they not the sweetest??
Cupcake-girl nearly chose the one on the top right  with the cute little headband and the ballet slippers, wearing a dress made out of a dress that belonged to Anne's sister. So sweet. Each one seemed to have its own little personality.

However, the little beauty that called out to her wore a dress full of happy little raspberries. Trust my little foodie to choose a doll with raspberries on it haha.
So cute.
The smile on my cupcake's face was priceless as she hugged Anne- Marie and thanked her.
We were told to wander around and come back later, as Anne quickly embroidered Cupcake's name on the back.
SEE!? It's the added little touches, and love that make buying handmade SO worth it.

So soft, and one piece, she snuggled it close and even used it as a pillow as she road through the fair on her daddy's back.

Want to meet Anne-Marie & fait pour toi yourself??
If you are local and in the Vancouver-area, you are in luck my friends!

Jess' Crunchy Shop

Looking for a crunchy, eco-friendly Canadian shop in your area??
Check out this new-ish shop based out of Kitchener, Ontario.

Jess, a busy mama of two and one on the way, is a firm believer in leading a more simple, eco-friendly life.
I love her mission statement:

"Much research has come out over the years on how toxins in our environment are contributing to numerous ailments, including some mental health issues. We can minimize these risks by choosing healthier products for ourselves, and preserving the earth for our childrens' futures.  We at Jess' Crunchy Shop are committed to finding products for families that are healthier, safer and more earth friendly. "

With new products being added all the time, Jess' Crunchy Shop has something for everyone no matter what your crunchy level is at.

From wool dryer balls,

to stainless steel kids cutlery,

and  stainless steel ice cubes,
to  veggie crayons
and  mama cloth

and so much more.

The Silisipper Trainer Cups from Be Kind really seem interesting to me and Jess' Crunchy shop is Canada's exclusive retailer for them.

The silicone lid snaps onto tumblers with ease and your toddler learns to sip from a regular glass right from the start! No spouts, no valves, just one piece. I don't know about you, but I hate the multiple pieces on a sippy cup. I hate washing them. I hate how mold can get trapped in the little valves Ugh. It's about time someone came out with something so simple. When your child outgrows this cup, simply remove the lid and you are good to go. No more wasting money on a ton of different sippy cups and gimmicky items for your child.
Choose from Picardie (7.4 oz) or Gigogne (7.75 oz) style of tumbler in four fun colours.
Which colour would you pick?

Pssst... the lid is dishwasher/microwave safe and can even go in the freezer.

The item that caught my eye right away however, was the Bamboo Bottle.

I am a water addict. I love carrying my water bottle around with me.
In my early 20s I could always be found carrying around my brightly coloured, sticker covered, plastic wide mouth water bottle. I took that thing EVERYWHERE from sporting events, outdoor concerts, camping trips, university classes... seriously, everywhere.
That was until the big BPA warnings came about. So diligently, but sadly, I tossed my trusty water bottle out with the week's recycling and began the hunt for a replacement.
Unfortunately, it was not as easy as I had hoped and I began to travel sans water bottle (oh how thirsty I was haha).
Over the years I have tried pretty much every bottle on the market: glass, metal, BPA free plastics... everything.
I really liked the idea and feel of a glass bottle but, hated the fact that it wasn't durable; I was always afraid that I was going to break it somehow.
Fail.

The thing that I love about this glass water bottle, is that it is encased in a tough but smooth, durable (and removable) bamboo sleeve. No more worrying about chemicals leeching into your delicious drink, the yucky taste of metal, or the fear of dropping your bottle out of your car and having it smash into a million tiny smithereens on the pavement while you watch in horror.

I love the refreshing taste of pure, clean, cold water from a glass.
I no longer am missing out on my "go-to" bottle.

This bottle can stand the constant travel, the concerts, the sporting events, the long university classes etc.
Another awesome thing, is that this bottle can be used for not only cold drinks, but for hot as well, so your tea, smoothies, or plain old water can easily be carted around with you.
Hooray! I can hear the sound of college students cheering from here!

A little heavy, but worth it in terms of function, practicality, durability and eco-friendliness.
Ditch the plastic water bottles for good, and invest in one of these quality, reusable bottles.
No more buying water, when you can easily refill at home, and on the go.

For cleaning, simply screw off the top and slip the bamboo sleeve off, and toss into the dishwasher... the glass is completely dishwasher safe. No little parts to lose, no little tiny parts to clean.
Awesome, right??

Jess' Crunchy shop also carries one of our family's favorite staples: Baltic Amber Necklaces:
 http://www.jesscrunchyshop.com/shop/natural-baby-care/amber-teething-necklaces/

Both my girls and I wear Baltic Amber and I swear by it.
Made for wearing, not actually chewing on, this little necklace is a life saver.
I wore two strands twisted during my entire third pregnancy and my girls have both worn their necklaces since they were two months old.
Fashionable AND useful.

What catches your eye in Jess' Crunchy Shop??
If you find something quickly you can take advantage of the awesome Mother's Day sale that is going on RIGHT now:

shoo-foo

Three cheers for this awesome Vancouver company who is committed to providing quality products, while reducing their carbon footprint and leading an overall healthy and eco-friendly lifestyle!

The idea behind shoo-foo began in 2006 when the owner, Dany Filion, learned just how bamboo can be used for textiles without the harsh use of pesticides. I guess you could say that a light bulb went off in her head. She began researching exactly how she could bring bamboo into the daily lives of others, especially if it was such an amazing, environmentally-friendly resource.

Shoo-foo was born a year later, with Dany on the road hitting tradeshows all across Canada with her amazing line of bamboo towels.
From there, shoo-foo expanded in popularity and shortly after began their line of bamboo baby essentials.

Today shoo-foo not only carries bath linens, including their original bamboo towels, and their essentials for babies (wipes, diapers, robes, sheets etc.) but, also super soft and silky bamboo duvet covers,  bamboo sheets and more!

Why bamboo:
(just a few ++ for you to ponder)
  • Fastest growing plant on Earth
  • No need to re-plant, as it grows like a weed
  • Bamboo is good for the air by its high absorbency of carbon dioxide and
its capacity to produce 35 per cent more oxygen than other types of
    forest
  • No fertilizers, no pesticides, no water irrigation, thus no soil pollution, no soil erosion, no underground water pollution (taken from here)
  • Grows naturally in China
  •  The bamboo crops used by shoo-foo's manufacturers are certified organic by the USDA seal
  • Soft and silky on your skin ( the smooth material made from the cellulose of bamboo, not the bamboo reeds haha)
  • Absorbant
  • Breathable
  • Light-weight
  • Moisture-wicking
Shoo-foo uses ONLY luxury bamboo, ethically and sustainably grown and always using 100% viscose.
You are guaranteed quality, organic bamboo every time.

We were sent the Soft & Cozy Bamboo Throw for Cool Summer Nights.

It arrived at my doorstep in this giant, beautifully wrapped, box.

Perfect gift for a friend, or family member, with no extra wrapping needed!

I felt it and it was love at first sight.
SOFT
Silky edged
and
GIGANTIC (especially for a throw).
For those of you that know me, I am a blanket addict, I really am.
I cannot walk by blankets in the store without stopping to pet them.
Roll your eyes, friends... it's ok.
Maybe it's the sleep-deprived mother in me but, I dream of hotel rooms with giant beds covered in crisp white sheets, fluffy pillows and soft blankets such as these.
Ahh. Heavenly.

What I especially LOVE about this bamboo throw/blanket in particular, is not only the feel.. but the size.
At 152 x 213 cm (60 x 84 in), this is a "throw" you can easily curl up on the couch with it, or even snuggle with in bed without having to worry about your feet, or any other body parts, sticking out.
You can be totally and completely wrapped up in softness.
Made from 80% organic bamboo fibers, 20% organic cotton and trimmed in a pure silk border, this blanket is amazingly luxurious.

The weight is perfect for all seasons and is neither too heavy, nor too light.
I cannot be the only one who loves a blanket even during the Summer months, can I?
I am totally bringing it with me on allll camping and road trips this year, and from now on.
What an easy way to keep the comfort of home with you no matter where you go.

Another added bonus, the shoo-foo soft and cozy bamboo throw, is a natural colour, and completely dye-free so it fits the decor no matter where you bring it!

My girls have been feeling under the weather lately, so this blanket could not have come at a more perfect time.
We have been snuggling pretty much non-stop under it.
Marathon cuddle/nursing-fests are a little cozier when covered in a blanket such as this one.

When was the last time that you splurged on something beautiful for yourself?

I do not know about your homes, but mine is filled with soft, yet TINY blankets created solely for for children and infants, fancy toys, and beautiful clothes.
My kids dress better than I do. Yep, it's true. Even their hand-me downs are adorable!
For some reason I find it so much easier to spend money on my little ones than on myself.

However, when I actually DO cave and finally do something for myself, I rarely regret it.
Why don't I do it more often, I always ask myself...
That "something" does not have to be HUGE, like a vacation or even a trip to the spa...
Sometimes, it is as simple and beautiful as curling up beneath a soft blanket for a nap or story with your child.

Curling up under my  shoo-foo bamboo blanket, I can:
- snuggle in a little closer to my children & husband,
- ignore the clock for a bit and not feel one minute of guilt,
- pretend my three hours of sleep is really twelve,
- curl up with a good book even if I only get through a chapter or two,
- pretend that I am really at that fancy hotel from my dreams,
- breathe deeply and try to take a moment to reflect on just how blessed I truly am, for my days are not always going to be full of giggles, tears, sleepless nights, dirty handprints and running through the house.
I really, truly, am one lucky mama.

What will you dream of, whilst curled up with your soft & cozy shoo-foo blanket?

Oh.
P.s. If you really feel like spoiling your babe with softness, there is a mini bamboo blanket available as well:

Bummis - The Potty Pant

$
0
0

We are in the midst of potty learning... well, to be honest we have been at it for awhile now but, really only now are getting down to the nitty gritty of it.
I hate to jinx things but, I think Cupcake actually really "HAS" it now.
She is in "big girl" undies for 95% of the time now.
HOORAAAAY!!!
Having only one child in diapers will be sooooo great.
The only thing I forgot about having a 2.5 year old in undies all the time is that they have to GO, alll the time.
And usually at the most "inopportune" times, like in the middle of traffic, in the border line-up, or some other crazy non-potty friendly time.
We tried to get to a fundraising bbq the other day and had to stop four times, which meant we missed the dinner, and got there just in time for the best part... dessert, but even that had three potty breaks! Haha.
We have learned to bring our little potty everywhere.
Even camping.

I kid, because we have all been there, and if you haven't been there yet, you will be there soon with your little one.You have to keep the humor, or potty learning would be a frustrating disaster for everyone. ;)
Hey, as my kids say, "Oh well. Accidents happen!"
And as I think to myself, "Deeeeep breath, they can't be in diapers in elementary school! Right?"

If I, myself, have learned one thing about potty training, is that your babe will get it when they get it.
You really can't force it.
While some kids are motivated by cute undies, stickers and candy others are not, so try to pick up on your child's cues, go with the flow, and be prepared to clean the floors...a lot.
Oh. And like everything else in life. Every child is different. What works for your friend's child may not work for yours! Just keep trying!

Fortunately there are a few things that can make potty training a bit easier:

Our friends at Bummis, have introduced an awesome new training pant that looks and feels just like regular underwear.
Slim and trim, in fact, so trim that if you are used to a cloth diaper, the complete opposite of "fluffy bum".
I like these for my daughter because they do not seem at all like a cloth diaper, yet were not quite full on underpants yet. Perfect for little learners that wait until the VERY last second before running to the potty.
Whereas these diapers are not meant to hold an entire pee (not recommended for night time training), they are great for those little leaks that you sometimes get while learning.

Sizing for the Potty Pant, differs from Bummis' older style training pants.

I should have probably gone up and got a size large, since Cupcake is 29lbs with... well... non-skinny legs. However, they do fit and work well even though they are a bit on the snugger side.
I do like the fact that these Potty Pants have soft, stretchy sides that are easy for little hands to pull on and off. Cupcake can manage on her own and seems to have no trouble whatsoever with them, and actually thinks they are "REAL" underwear.

I also like the outer layer of waterproof fabric, that doesn't FEEL like a traditional waterproof training pant. When I think trainers, I tend to think of those awful rubber pants that toddlers used to wear when we were little. These trainers, are soft and absorbant, with a layer each of cotton terry and microfiber and lined with natural cotton-hemp.
Your child is able to feel wet, and hopefully realize that it is time to RUN to the potty.

Which style is your favorite?
I think all are pretty gender neutral, so why not one of each? Haha.
I definitely wish we had a few more pairs than just the one pair of Pistachio Dot.
We skipped the whole disposable pull on training pants with Cupcake, which I think was a good move. We went right from diapers to these and regular underwear which seemed to help immensely. When my eldest was learning, we tried the disposable training pants route, which were great for night time, but did not help with the actual potty-learning process at all. He knew that they would hold everything, so he had no motivation to run and use the potty himself. As soon as we got rid of those he was good to go.

With the Potty pant, Cupcake was able to feel wet, so she learned when she had to rush to the potty and what would happen if she didn't.

Since we have been practicing for awhile now, I think that the perfect stash for Cupcake's potty learning, would be three: one on, one in the wash, and one for back up.
However, if you are JUST starting out with the whole potty-process, perhaps 6-10 would be a better amount.
So lightweight, the Potty Pant can easily be rolled up and shoved into any purse or pocket, making it much easier to carry around a mini-stash, without needing a "cloth-diaper friendly" diaper bag or backpack.
Maybe invest in a Fabulous Wet Bag, or two to keep dirty "pants" in.

Like what you see?

Good luck with potty learning!!
Have any suggestions, ideas, or questions? Feel free to post them on our Facebook Wall:

A BIG thank you to our friends at Bummis!

Has your family hopped onto the cloth diapering wagon yet?
If not...
What is holding you back?

Even if you cloth diaper HALF the time, think about how many diapers you are keeping out of our landfills. The thought is crazy, really.

I must be honest, we cloth diapered a heck of a lot more with our first, than with the girls.(I really miss our old house with the top loader. Sigh. The washer, not the house.) I really ought to get back at it full time..I love the look of freshly washed diapers hanging out to dry, or stacked in organized piles.

Lil Helper, is a Toronto based company started by two hilarious and VERY talented guys, Mohammed and Nader. Yep, guys, and guys with master's degrees in aerospace at that. Seriously.
Gotta love nerds, right!??
(Hey, they call themselves nerds, and I am one, too so it's ok.)

If you browse through the pages, you will actually find yourself smiling as you are reading along, for example:
http://www.lilhelper.ca/recieving-blankets-swaddlers
Read some of the receiving blanket information.
I dare you not to chuckle.
I just love the addition of humor. Life is so serious these days, why not lighten up every once in awhile. These guys are not just big goofballs though, they are passionate about their work, and it shows! The website is easy to navigate, fun to look at, and chalk full of GREAT products.

The Lil Helper Cloth Diapers journey began back in 2009, with a story like so many of our own. A husband and a wife shopping for their unborn baby, and being overwhelmed at allll of the options on the market and the sky-high prices.
The husband, and future daddy - Mohammed, decided to get together with a friend - Nader, and revolutionize the cloth diapering world, to design an affordable, and functional cloth diaper. They began brainstorming and finding a way to make their dream a reality. As they researched, and planned, they soon found out that they were not alone. There definitely was a market out there just waiting to be pounced on. People wanted to save money, AND the planet.

"In our own minds, we had magnanimously thought of ourselves as Cloth Diaper Men, who were trying to save the world from the evil paws of global warming by single-handedly preventing landfill waste created by disposable diapers."
 - Mohammed

Over the next few years, of hard work and dedication, Lil Helper Cloth Diapers was BORN!

Cloth diapers,
Cloth inserts,
Wet bags,
Blankets/swaddlers,
and
Change/crib mats.

All in one place!

Pretty much necessities for any baby, toddler, or child, big or small.

We were super excited to try our "sample pack" from Lil Helper.

This is what arrived: Two diapers, a few wipes, and a sweet little wet bag.
First impressions: crazy-soft inserts, crazy-soft wipes, and totally fun star print diaper.

Into the wash the diapers went right away. I wanted to get them prepped ASAP, so we could test them out.
I think that I didn't prep them enough the first time I used them, so back into the wash they went a few more times.

I usually prep. our cloth diapers by putting them through at least 5 wash and dry cycles, with cloth diaper-friendly detergent. Make sure to completely dry your diapers before you wash them again. The more you prep. the fibers, the more absorbent they will be. So make sure not to skimp out on this part of the process.

The inserts are completely detachable, and made up of 7+ layers of uber absorbent cloth (bamboo outer layers and microfiber inner). Soft against baby's skin where they need it most.

Lil Helper Diapers are one-size fits all (between 7-35lbs), so you get the most bang for your buck as your diaper grows WITH your child.

What I love about one-size diapers is that you can get all of the fun prints that you love, and your baby will not outgrow them for a long, long time! Score!! I hate buying a super-cute diaper, only to have my baby go through some crazy growth spurt and be out of them in a month and a half. This way, you can add to your stash as new prints come out, and have them last your baby's entire diapering journey... and even longer, as your next babies can use them, as well.

OH, and did you know that for every 3 diapers that YOU buy, Lil Helper Cloth Diapers donates 1 brand new cloth diaper to a family in need? Love that.
You would be surprised at how many families struggle to diaper their children. Think about how expensive disposable diapers really are. When you are not bringing in a lot of money, $35/week can be a huge amount.  Cloth diapers are not only fun and eco-friendly but, they really are cost-effective and can be a GIANT blessing to families that do not have other options.

How adorable is my little pumpkin in her stars diaper??
Thank you, to the dudes at Lil Helper Diapers, the stars were a nice surprise for this star-loving lady.

I love the easy to use snaps of these, so you are able to get a perfect fit every time. I actually prefer snaps over Velcro, not only for fit but, for washing as well. Velcro attaches itself to EVERYTHING.

For a one-size diaper these diapers are actually quite trim, too AND light. Definitely not your "average" fluffy bum-one-size. I can easily fit Pumpkin's regular sized jammies over these diapers.

I like that the inserts can easily be snapped off and replaced, as long as the actual diaper shell itself is still clean, you just have to snap in a new insert. Voila! An AI2 (all in two), with a breathable waterproof PUL, lined shell.

In fact, if your babe suffers from diaper rashes, perhaps looking into a Charcoal Bamboo Cloth Diaper, from Lil Helper Diapers, would help!

The breathable shell of these diapers, actually lets your baby's bum breathe WHILE still they are still wearing a diaper. Baby's bum feels dry, even when it is not, and there is no need for extra creams, pastes, or goos. Bum can heal, while being protected and wrapped in softness.

Sound good??

Urban Bonnets

 Introducing: the Urban Bonnet.

An old-time favorite, with a modern twist!
I am in love.
Seriously.

I totally wish that it was socially acceptable for me to wear one... actually to heck with being acceptable, I need an Urban Bonnet. I would totally rock one.
Keeping the sun off of one's face has never been so stylish, who needs a Kentucky Derby -wide brimmed hat,
Talented ladies at Urban Bonnet, can you pretty please, with sugar on top, make me an adult one, or should I just try the XL haha??

I LOVE the way Urban Bonnets keep the sun out and actually stay ON.
We have tried a few different hats for sun protection and have not had much luck with fulfilling both of these requirements.
Either the hat is super cute, but doesn't stay on, or stays on but is super dorky.

We have been using the bonnets we were sent, NON-stop since they arrived (THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!). Whether we are going to a backyard bbq down the street, the water park, the beach, out for a walk, or on vacation, these bonnets have been in my purse and then on the girls heads every time we are outside. We always get TONS of compliments on them, too. We seriously cannot have the girls wear them out without at least one person coming up to us to comment on them. Not only from other moms, but from people I never would guess, like my big, tough Uncle, and my cousin's boyfriend. HAHA. The funny part is that I am so serious, the one time I forgot to put Pumpkin's bonnet on, my uncle was like, "Ohhhh, but where is her cute bonnet!??She is crying for her cute bonnet.".

Pumpkin swimming.

We stayed with my aunt and uncle in the Okanagan last week, and everyone could not get enough of the girls and their adorable bonnets. We went to a Farmer's Market one day and there was a WAHM booth with all sorts of hats... including bonnets... she ran after me and, no lie, yelled,
"IS THAT AN URBAN BONNET!!?!?"
Then told me she had been wanting to see one in real life forever!
Her bonnets were cute but, no offense to her, not as great as our Urban Bonnets.

One of the things that I LOVE about Urban Bonnets is that they are light-weight, and mold-able yet still hold their shape, and with adjustable snaps under the chin, a perfect fit is always just a snap away. The brim is the perfect amount of floppy meets stiff, if that makes any sense. Easy to roll and stash into any bag, there is no excuse not to have protection for your kid's heads at any moment. The extra gigantic brim, keeps the sun off of your babe's face while at the same time looking totally hip. Not that babies, toddlers or kids, even really care about being HIP but, it is always fun to find something super cute and stylish for your little one that is also age appropriate.

We read the Little House on the Prairie series to our older kids last year, and often head out to pioneer/heritage sites so we refer to our bonnets as "Laura & Mary" bonnets.

Cupcake at O'Keefe Ranch Heritage Site

The wide brim, is especially nice for babywearing, with my littlest one. She can easily be up on my back, or on my front and I do not have to worry about her getting too much sun, since she goes everywhere my older two go. The bonnet also is great for discreet nursing in public, no need to worry about flashing that random stranger.

Our bonnets have already been so well-loved, tried and tested true during these few short weeks at our home. They have been out in the sun and soaked in the pool, and still look brand new. I anticipate a lot more adventures with them this Summer, as we have hikes, camping trips, water-park visits and more planned! However, don't expect us to pack these cuties up when Autumn rolls around, oh no! Since we live on the West Coast of BC, we will be able to use these ALL YEAR LONG!

Cupcake, Pumpkin and moi at the Burnaby Village - Heritage Museum

Though for those of you that actually get snow, Urban Bonnets actually makes a thick, fleece-lined version called the  "Ski-bonnet
The cutest way I have ever seen to keep out the chill of winter, and much more fashionable than all of the toques (beanies) we have around here.
Through sun, rain, wind and snow, Urban Bonnets will get you through!

Another awesome thing about Urban Bonnets, is that they are totally reversible! Get two bonnets for the price of one. All of the bonnets are made with good quality, 100% cotton and completely modern fabrics, and sewn right in the USA.
The snaps are totally coated, so no sharp pieces or metal to rust.

See for yourself what Urban Bonnets (UB2), has to say:

"UB2 is a woman-owned company and ALL of our products are handmade in the USA! We are committed to domestic production, social equity, and environmental sustainability.  You’ll see these commitments in our manufacturing practices, our support of work-at-home women, and in our use of organic fabrics and minimal, environmentally responsible packaging."

I love putting my money into companies like this. Supporting real moms, doing what they love to do in order to stay home with their kids, and pay the bills at the same time. Being a WAHM is hard work, I tell you! These bonnets probably have been worked on in the wee hours of the night while everyone else is sleeping, and/or early in the morning before the birds are even up. Each bonnet has been lovingly constructed, and has been checked over twice by hand to make sure that it lives up to Urban Bonnet's strict standards. Each and every hat is guaranteed to be a beautiful, hand-made treasure ready to wear and love.

How to choose a size:
extra extra small: 14-16", usually fits preemie - 3 months (this bonnet fits newborns)
extra small: 16-17.25”, usually fits 3-6 months
small: 17-18.25”, usually fits 6-12 months
medium: 18-19.25”, usually fits 12-24 months
large: 19-21.25”, usually fits 2-3t
extra large: 21”+, usually fits 3t- adult (yes, adult!  the size is flexible enough to snap down to fit a kid and extend out to fit most (but not all) adult heads)

NOW WHICH PATTERN??

Funky:
or classic:

Black and white:

Or colourful:
There are a ZILLION choices:

Sadly, I cannot help you with the choosing part... especially since I want ALL of them myself. Narrowing down the options is just TOO hard.
I was super-lucky and just wrote in with a few of my favorites and they surprised me. Haha.

Still have a question?

Puck & Whimsy

Looking for a custom wrap conversion bag but, don't know where to begin?? Let Anna at Puck & Whimsy walk you through the options. Don't have a wrap scrap of your own? Not to worry, for an additional fee you can choose from wrap scraps currently available at P&W.

Wait, wait, wait... let's back up here. What IS a wrap scrap bag???
When a woven wrap is cut down to a smaller size, and/or converted into a different carrier (ring sling or mei tai), there is a portion left over. That portion (or portions) can either be hoarded, sold or crafted away. Puck & Whimsy takes these scraps and creates a gorgeous bag just for YOU! I love that you are included in the entire process... well not the entire process, but the decision making process. Don't like backpack straps? No problem. Need a removable, washable liner? Awesome, consider it done. Though each option has a price, you get exactly what you need.

Let's talk about the bag in greater detail:
Right now the diaper bag is your only option but, there will also be a "satchel" option coming SOON! Every bag comes with a handle on top, a sewn-in lining, and permanently  attached up-cycled leather or eco-friendly faux leather backpack straps:
-  each bag takes approximately 81" of beautiful, woven wrap.
- high quality thread
- hand sewn by local women
.
Optional:
- fixed or removable backpack straps
- wet bag pocket
- removable/washable lining
- wrap strap
- traditional messenger strap
- car key clip
- applique

I chose to use a wrap from Puck & Whimsy, as I did not have any scraps in my possession. I was given a list of a few to choose from. I absolutely love the wrap that I chose - Girasol Donau is completely up my alley. Blues, greens, a little brown, perfect for this BC girl. I could not be happier!

I also, decided to go with the backpack straps, the wrap strap, end pockets, front pocket, and applique. Anna designed my peace sign applique especially for me, which was super special! Thank you, Anna!
I was involved in all of the other design steps, and was even asked which colour lining I preferred, when given a line up to chose from.

As soon as I picked my bag up at the post office, I knew it was something special.

The body of the bag is nice and roomy and can hold a TON.
I have three kids, and babysit another two year old, so although I pack fairly lightly, I can fit A LOT in there.

Right now I have inside:
Wallet, change purse, keys, cell phone charger, Starbright Giraffe, cloth wipes, 3 little diapers, 2 bigger diapers for babysittee, pants for baby, 2 onesies for baby, 2 pairs of extra undies for Cupcake (who is fully potty trained now WOOHOO!!), dress for Cupcake, a package of disposable wipes, two Urban Bonnets, a pacifier and a handful of other random baby teethers and toys.

Doesn't the bag still look empty??
I still have heaps of room.
We have used this bag on two mini-trips, and I have always been pleasantly surprised with the amount of room available.

There are 4 pockets inside the lining, for all of your little and important necessities. No fumbling around in the bottom of your bag for your baby's pacifier, or your car keys! Love that.

I love the end pockets, as well. I hate carrying around water bottles, only to have them sweat and leak all over the rest of my bag. This way they are out of the way, and easily accessible.

I also really like that not only does the front flap snap shut, but it also has a leather drawstring so that you can close the bag up even tighter to ensure that nothing falls out. Love that extra little detail, too!

The additional front pocket also snaps shut.

For reference here is me wearing my bag and I am 5'7":

All in all I am very impressed with the entire custom process with Puck & Whimsy.
Anna provided amazing customer service, and was always quick to answer any questions I had along the way. She updated me on what was going on, and let me join in the process wherever possible.
The wait was extremely reasonable, and the shipping time was super-speedy.

Kaboogie Shoes

A friend actually emailed me to tell me about this awesome company, and I have been recommending them ever since.
These soft soled, leather shoes by KaBoogie are ah-maaaaazing.

You know when you have a chubby footed baby, and you have a small slipper and you are trying to make the two of them go together???
YEAH, the awesome thing about THESE slippers, is how WIDE they open up. No bending, contorting, and shoving necessary! Which is a bonus because I always worry I am going to break someone's little ankle.

Here is one boot, un-done.

These "eco friendly, reclaimed leather baby shoes, moccasins, and boots, are handmade by KaBoogie" in the USA so you can feel good about where you are putting your hard earned dollars.

The elastic around the ankle is relaxed enough to not dig in, but tight enough to ensure that the bootie stays on. The cuff (held with soft velcro), is able to be tightened to stay on teeny feet. with no red marks left behind.
The photo collage at the top of the page depicts my teeny-footed 9 month old, as well as my teeny-footed 2.5yr old wearing the same 12-18 month boot. My chicklets have small feet! Although the 9 month old does not fit the boots 9 (yet), we have been putting them on her occasionally anyway because they STAY ON (and are super cute). She has teeny feet, and loves to kick them together, which means shoes usually do not stay put, so I am looking forward to getting lots of use out of these come Autumn/Winter.

I love the super soft reclaimed leather, as well, and the fact that each shoe is handmade and double-stitched for added strength. The soles are suede and skid-proof, so once this little pumpkin is walking around, I don't have to worry about her slipping around on our hardwood floors.
The boot itself, is adorable and comes in either a shiny leather, or a soft suede. Both, are super stylish, hip, with just the right amount of "edge".

The moccasin, which comes with fringe or without, is equally as comfortable and stylish as the boot, with the same no-slip, soft suede bottom. I love that KaBoogie, is written on the bottom of each sole, too... the perfect branding with no annoying and itchy tags or labels. So cute, and such a great idea.

Gender neutral, these soft soled shoes are perfect for everyone!

Sizing in inches/CM
0-6 month - 4 1/4" - 10.8 cm
6-12 mo. - 5" - 12.7 cm
12-18 mo. - 5 1/2" - 14 cm
18-24 mo. - 6" - 15.25 cm

Don't see your little's size??
Contact Audrey at KaBoogie directly through her Etsy shop, and ask about custom shoes for your little one.
I have heard that if you ask suuuuper-duper nicely, Audrey is able to make ADULT shoes, too.

Audrey, herself, is awesome to work with.
I did not know Pumpkin's shoe size exactly, so she had me trace her little baby foot, measure it, and send a photo in. From the measurements, she was able to determine what size Pumpkin would need for fall, and what she had in stock.
Based on Pumpkin's teeny shoe size, I was supposed to get the smallest size... however, stubborn mama that I am, and knowing that her feet will grow, I got the second biggest size. Summer is hot, and Pumpkin is still small. I didn't want to get a shoe size that she would grow out of quickly, and was looking ahead to the cooler up-coming months. I would rather get too big, and have her grow into them, than get too small, and have her outgrow her beautiful slippers before she even really gets to wear them.
That is also what is great about the cuffs, I can tighten them around her little ankles so they "fit" long before they really do. Plus, she isn't walking yet, so no need to worry about tripping on the excess material.

The booties arrived quickly, and I was surprised at how soft they were. Soft and floppy, with just the right amount of structure. Absolutely perfect, and ultra comfortable for your babe. I also love that they are neutral, and can be worn with everything. Totally classic. I know that we are going to use these every.single.day.

Love what you see but want to buy a zillion pairs for your own shop??
Have no fear, KaBoogie does bulk-wholesale orders, too!

Mandala Sky

The meaning of Mandala comes from Sanskrit meaning "circle." Even though it may be dominated by squares or triangles, a Mandala has a concentric structure. Mandalas offer balancing visual elements, symbolizing unity and harmony. The meanings of individual Mandalas are usually different and unique to each Mandala. The goal of the Mandala is to serve as a tool on our spiritual journey as it symbolizes cosmic and psychic order.

Feel great from the inside out.

My wardrobe is basically made up of clothing that is casual and comfortable.
AND
Clothing that looks nice and put together (though I am lacking in this department, GREATLY).
Why is it SO hard to find clothes that fit ALL of these characteristics?
Why can't NICE clothes, also be comfy?

Sky, a BC native, decided to make our dreams a reality when she began designing comfortable, relaxed clothing, with an edge. Clothes that can take you from the yoga studio, to dinner with a friend without looking like you just rolled out of bed.

This is definitely not your mama's yoga wear!

Body skimming, without being skin tight and just enough screen print to catch your eye and want to stay there.

Made in Canada, this awesome clothing line will definitely turn some heads.

Sound too good to be true?
Take a look for yourself.

I love long tunics, tops, sweaters, and cardigans
Like, could wear them every day, type of love.

Sky was kind enough to send me one of her 3/4 length sleeved tunics - HOPE- in black, and I cannot get enough of it.
 http://mandalasky.com/mandalaskyshopping/hope.php
(sleeveless option linked above)

Silky soft bamboo and cotton, with just a hint of spandex. Enough to hug your shape, without drawing attention to the lumps and bumps. This is the perfect top to wear with leggings, as it is long enough to cover your bum, too! Bonus! I do not know about you but, I hate having my bum exposed when I am wearing leggings. The ruching on the sides of the tunic help the fabric fit YOU best, no one-size-fits-all-boxy long shirt here! The tunic has a deep V-cut in the front, as well as the back, which I find SO flattering. There is a fine line between too much V, and too little, but Mandala Sky perfects it -  a bit of exposure, without your bra showing. The faux wrap front, is also extremely flattering and I love that the print is only screened on one side. I really dislike shirts that are too busy, or "showy" but, the Hope print is beautiful and adds just a little extra something to your fave "plain black tee".

The Hope tunic is the perfect staple for your Fall wardrobe, just add a pair of leggings, some flats, maybe a cute scarf and you are ready to go!

Which is your favorite Mandala Sky piece?
 http://mandalasky.com/mandalaskyshopping/

Everything is just so flowy, with smooth lines and shapes.

I LOVE Sky's bright red jacket pictured in her profile photo.
Vancouver can be SOOO dark and gloomy during the winter that this red, hooded jacket would be an AMAZING way to brighten up your day. My fave!

 Thank you SO much, Sky!!

Natulo - High Quality Eco-Friendly Organic Teethers

High Quality Eco-Friendly Organic Teethers, Toys and Cloth Diapers.

We (well my youngest) had the pleasure of reviewing one of Natulo's patented ice teethers, these past few weeks, and let me tell you, she really is enjoying it.

It is extremely easy to use.
Simply unsnap the 100% organic bamboo fabric pocket, insert an ice cube or two, and snap back up.
The fabric is soft, and almost fluffy on one side, and smooth on the other. The hard wooden ring that the whale tale is attached to is the perfect size for little hands to hang on to and sanded smooth.

I wish that I had have taken a video the first time Pumpkin tried the teether out. At first she was confused, and I had to hand it to her a few times before she actually put it in her mouth, but then as she started chewing, she really loved it. The ice felt good on her gums, and she loved sucking the water out, especially since it was such a hot day. She alternated between chewing on the cloth and chewing on the wooden ring, and it kept her happy and occupied for our entire meal. Score! The only negative thing was that she kept throwing it on the floor but, that would easily be fixed by attaching it to one of those toy tether or pacifier clip type things.

Natulo offers this fabulous teether in a few different and styles.

I am loving the custom wrap scrap options available.
How cute is that rainbow whale tale??

What a great gift for the new baby on your list.
Or, dare I say, stocking stuffer.
HEY, why not get a start on your Christmas shopping this year.

I love that I do not have to worry about my kids putting this toy in their mouths, which we all know is inevitable with toddlers and babies. There is not one piece of plastic to be seen, and the wooden ring itself is free of any shellacs or paint.
The fabric is soft, and flawlessly sewn. No loose threads, no bumpy seams.
Best part is, when the cloth part is dirty just unsnap it and toss it in the wash! (Maybe into a mesh bag so it does not get lost or eaten by the sock monster.)
I personally would hang dry, or dry on low heat in order to keep that bamboo soft and fluffy.
Being able to properly clean something that your baby has been sucking and chewing on all day is awesome.
I wish other baby toys were so easily cleaned.

Distribution Wallaby and the Boba 3G

I am often asked to recommend a great baby carrier that can be purchased easily in Canada.
New babywearers are often overwhelmed by the choices available.
Which is a "good" carrier??
Which is a "bad" carrier??
Which will be the most comfortable?
Which will last the longest, and be the best bang for my buck?

Distribution Wallaby, is the Canadian distributor for all Boba products.
They carry the Boba Wrap (which I have reviewed before),
and

All carriers are shipped right from Canada, so you do not have to worry about your carrier being stuck in customs, extra duty, or any of the other worries that sometimes come along with purchasing over the border.

Let's take a look at the Boba 3G, and see what makes it so special.

The breakdown, commentary by me in italics:

  • 100% Cotton  (I would spot wash, or wash in cold on delicate in a pillow case and hang dry)
  • Front and back carry options (Yah, baby!!!)
  • Removable sleeping hood (Doubles as a rain hood, for my fellow Vancouver-ites)
  • Adjustable sleeping hood, adjusting in length to fit growing babies (One of my fave carrier hoods)
  • Zipper pouch may be used to store your hood when not in use (or your cell, keys, wallet)
  • Comfortably fits heights 5'0" – 6'3" (I am 5'7" and husband is 6', both of us are totally comfy)
  • Waistband range: 25" – 58" (Huge range, providing a comfy fit for many different body types)
  • Additional adjustments for easier fit & breastfeeding (lower one strap and BF like a covert ninja)
  • Patent-pending removable foot straps (Helps provide support, and eliminates leg dangling)
  • Elastic bands neatly roll up straps (No tripping hazards, here!)
  • Shoulder strap holders keep purses and diaper bags in place (Woah, I had NO idea!!)
  • Easily adjustable chest strap (tighten, or loosen to help keep the weight off your shoulders)
  • Uniquely designed to “hug” your child (Contoured w/wide body panel)
  • Converts to an infant carrier without an insert (Keeps it slim, lightweight and easy to use)
  • Extra head support adjustments for infants (No head flopping!)
  • Body of carrier rises 2-3" higher than other brands (Great for leaners, and long bodied babes)
  • Multiple pockets for on-the-go storage (the more the merrier, this carrier is like cargo shorts!)
  • High quality military grade buckles (Tell your husband this carrier is military grade *wink*)
What I love about the Boba 3G, is that there is no separate infant insert needed!
- 7lbs - 45lbs -
Follow the instructions provided in your manual, or follow the link below, and with a few quick adjustments, you are able to actually shorten the body of your carrier, and thus making the perfect little pocket for your little one to sit in.

No bulky insert, no small, extra fussy parts, or pieces to clip in, and then wedge your squishy newborn into.
Everything needed is already a part of your carrier!
Awesome, hey!?

Totally a great carrier for new babywearers, and old alike!
Easy to use, adjustable, and comfortable.

The Boba 3G, also offers a longer body (2-3" higher) than most carriers, and if your child is a leaner, like my eldest was... a longer body carrier is a necessity. He would lean so far back in our first carrier, that I thought he would fall right out. The higher back not only gives me peace of mind, but makes your baby feel so supported, and cozy, too.
 (As seen on the website)

I also love the long adjustable straps, that are made to fit a wide assortment of body types.
There is nothing worse than recommending a carrier to someone, and having it be too small for them.
The Boba 3G, has extra long straps, which make it unnecessary for you to have to purchase extension belts, or the like.
Have a smaller waist? Simply roll up the access belt and secure with the attached elastics.

Once you babe grows into a toddler (around one year old), you can attach the included foot straps to the waist belt to ensure that your child is still able to sit in the most ergonomic position possible.
The foot straps, help your child sit supported, and in that familiar "M" position.

(See how his knees are still able to be above his bum?)

This little checklist nicely pinpoints the bonuses, of the additional leg support.

You will notice that the Boba 3G also has a wider body than most soft structured carriers on the market.
I prefer the extra width, as I feel that it helps your child feel more secure and supported. The width will also help you get the most use knee to knee support out of your carrier, and therefore help it last a lot longer. Your child is enveloped in support, and has the best seat in the house, up high with mama and close enough for snuggles and kisses all day long.

I also love that this carrier has a little pocket on the waist band. Perfect for carrying your keys, cell phone, and a few cards, or even a little change purse or something. Carrying a purse can be a hassle sometimes, and this little pocket lets you go purse free! Throw a few diapers and wipes in a little clutch or wristlet and you are good to go!

And look how small it can roll up!

So easy to toss it in your car, bag, or wherever, so you can have it ready to go at all times.

For a SSC (soft structured carrier), it seems to have the perfect proportion of cushy padded straps, and a light body. It isn't bulky, or heavy, and can easily be used between people of different body types with a few simple adjustments. My only wish is that you could cross the straps in the back. Ah, well!

This carrier is so easy to just throw on when you are running out the door, chasing after crazy children around the house, or going on hikes on the weekend. I often will buckle it up high on my natural waist, and throw Pumpkin into a back carry so she can see over my shoulder as we go about our day. She loves being able to look around while we explore.

Canadian Summers... kidding, this was from earlier in the Spring.

I have purchased a few of these for friends, and they all LOVE the ease of use of this carrier, and the fact that it can be worn with both their small babies, and their bigger toddlers.
This carrier has been tested for babies as small as 7lbs, and as big as 45lbs!
If you are on a budget, and/or have multiple children, the Boba definitely should be on your wishlist.
The patterns are super cute, too.
Take a peek:

The Camouflage one is totally Daddy friendly, and on this farm family's wishlist!
Love it.
Wonder if I could get a John Deere symbol appliqued on it??
HAHAH I know someone's Christmas present!
A HUUUUUGE thank you goes out to Distribution Wallaby, for making this babywearer a happy camper and letting us test drive the beautiful Boba 3G in Dusk.

Cool Tricks - Handmade by Toni

Time and time again you will hear me pushing handmade over store bought, unique over run of the mill, and quirky over "perfect".
I love seeing my little ones snuggle up to a dolly or toy that was made by another mama just like me, knowing that they probably created this little masterpiece late at night when their babies were tucked into bed, working into the wee hours of the night, and sometimes into the mornings. The hours, the love spent on each stitch... and if they are anything like me, the frustration that comes with crafting with no sleep. Sleep, pfffft what is sleep?!
Each little creation an accomplishment, a piece of art.

Toni, the creative muscle behind Cool Tricks, is not only a mama herself, but a grandmother now, too! She has been there done that, and knows what makes a quality toy. A quilter first, this talented lady has branched out and discovered a new past time, sewing amazing, quirky, and fabulous toys and lovies.

Her handmade soft toys, have oodles of personality, and are ready to love!

Toni sent my babies a bunny like the one pictured above for them to love on, and they were over the moon.
Soft, dimple plush minky to snuggle, and a sweet hand drawn face, who wouldn't love to receive one of these little guys??!

My youngest loves to sleep with her bunny, as she loves to rub the long minky ears in between her fingers while she is falling asleep. So adorable. The ears are the perfect length to grab on to, and probably feel good on her teething gums and the body is a great size to huggle with.

Toni, the artist, lovingly draws each face on personally with a special, heat treated fabric marker, to ensure that the face will stay on for good. Slobber and kiss proof is a necessity in this house.

Bunny Measurements:
Stuffed part of body is approx. 7 inches tall (17.78 cm)
Ears are approx. 5.5 inches (13.97 cm)
Legs and Arms are about 2.5 inches long (6.35 cm)

Not too big, not too small and perfect for little arms to hold, hug, and love!
In fact, as soon as we opened them up my youngest, and my friend's youngest got right down on the floor and started playing with them. It totally was love at first sight, too bad my camera phone is so blurry these days.

Toni, also sent us a sweet wrap scrap dolly to try out (THANK YOU, TONI!!).

Tye-dyed velveteen and gorgeous wrap scrap, with little loopy arms and legs, this toy is perfect for little hands. Stuffed with polyfil,a little rattle is sewn inside for an added jingly bonus. What small person doesn't love a noisy toy?? Haha. Fortunately, I can handle the sound of a quiet jingle!
I love that I can easily attach a pacifier clip onto one of the loops, and my daughter can play with her toy while on my back, or in the stroller, without worrying that she is going to throw it out and it will be gone forever.
The velveteen is bright, and soft, and I love the contrasting black and white checkered pattern of the cotton loops.
The face, though, is my favorite detail, and reminds me of the sun/moon. OH so different from any baby toy I have seen, the face is a piece of art-work in itself, although not hand painted by Toni herself, it looks that way and has quite a vintage feel to it. It reminds me of nursery rhymes, folktales, and the illustrations in my mom's old children's books.

If you are looking for a piece of art for your child, what could be better than these huggable little guys??
 Have a look for yourself:

(Isn't Etsy the best??)

Bunnies not your thing??
(Wait, who doesn't love bunnies??)
Toni also makes awesome birds, elephants, baby blankets, pot holders, and other various soft creations.
I love the blanket and bear combo. Perfect baby shower gift.

So cute.

How about a rainbow caterpillar??

Keep Cup

$

0

Designed and made in Australia.
The first barista standard reusable coffee cup, designed to replace disposable cups.

 I am a coffee drinker.
There, I said it.
I never thought that those words would come out of this tea drinker's mouth, or, well, ... off of my fingertips but, it is true!

Since having kids, I have become a big coffee drinker, and have been known to frequent drive-thrus for coffee. Though I try to recycle those handy paper cups, I have thrown out more than my "fair" share.
*hangs head in shame*

I recently stumbled across the perfect alternative.

Bright.
Beautiful.
REUSABLE.

I started researching immediately and absolutely loved what I found.

My Keep Cups arrived, and I could not have been more excited with the look, and feel of them.
I immediately uploaded the following photos to my Instagram and personal Facebook accounts, and had tons of positive comments right away. Everyone wanted to know WHAT they were, and WHERE they could find one.

I was surprised when friends from around the world commented saying that they, too, had Keep Cups of their own.

My girlfriend in England had this to say about hers,

"My Keep Cup is the next size up from espresso / babycino. I chose all of the colours (myself). I love it because it's not too big which is great as I don't want a gallon of milk. I think that they are easy to use, waaaaay better than disposables at stopping spills and stopping your hands from burning. I also get a feel good feeling from having a reusable rather than throwing lots away. Only downside is that they cost £8.50 here and I only get a 5p discount per cup so it will take 170 cups to make my money back. But, I do get to take cups of tea to meetings that are in other offices so that's a bonus. I also love the way it looks. So, yep, love it LOADS. That's my review."

Katie was as excited about her Keep Cup as I was about mine, and couldn't wait to share her thoughts with me. Thanks, Katie for you honest review, and for the action photo of your little one enjoying her Keep Cup!!

Though you only are getting a small discount for using your reusable cup each time, Katie, think of how many disposable cups you are keeping out of landfills.
Now think if everyone in your office was to follow your lead.

You may be surprised to learn that Keep Cups ARE plastic.
WHY?

Here is my Cole's Notes list:

  • lighter
  • unbreakable
  • colourful
  • dishwasher & microwave safe
  • able to be recycled
  • made from a single injection mold
  • made from polypropylene #5
  • BPA free
  • less resources needed to make them

**Read up on some amazing facts in regards to sustainability here: **

A few facts that really jumped out at me were:
  • Half of the plastic used in the world today is for single use items.
  • Very few disposable coffee cups aren’t made from recycled paper. Most disposable cups are manufactured from 100% bleached virgin paperboard, sprayed with a polyethylene coating. They are often impregnated with toxic dyes which add to the difficulty in recycling. The plastic lining means they are not easily recycled. Biodegrading of disposable cups, particularly in dry parts of the world, can take 50 years or more. When disposable cups are compostable they must to be placed in actual compost bins not the garbage to be recycled, otherwise they remain landfill.
  •  Annually 500 billion disposable cups are manufactured around the world; that’s about 75 disposable cups for every single person on the planet.
So crazy when you sit down and think.
There is just SO much waste these days.
In an average day, I wonder how many "things" we go through that are for single use only: water bottles, disposable coffee cups (drive-thrus, stores, grocery stores etc), plastic packaging on lunch or snack...

Well, with all of this talk about plastics being bad, and BPA and what not, if the Keep Cup is made out of plastic, how safe is it really for hot beverages??

"The KeepCup is made from polypropylene which is a “thermoplastic polymer,” meaning that it has the density and resins that give it a high melting point (160 degrees Celsius), enabling it to tolerate hot liquid- without breaking down. As such it is used in a wide range of food packaging applications in which the product initially goes into the container hot, or is later microwave heated in the container and is type #5.
Polypropylene #5 is the best food grade plastic for KeepCup due to its thermal stability. The cup is made from polypropylene, the lid from LDPE #4, the plug is a polyethylene polymer called TPU, and the thermal band is made from silicone. The cup, lid and plug are manufactured in Victoria, Australia. The band is made and printed in China. KeepCup has been independently tested and contains no toxins including BPA. Bisphenol A is contained in polycarbonate #7."

Besides being environmentally friendly, part of the fun is the bright colours you are able to choose from.
Not only are you able to customize your cup, but the stopper, band and lid, too!

I think that a reusable cup that you feel good about, and love, you are more likely to take with you, and use.

Choose from XS (4oz), S (8oz), M (12oz), L (16oz)

or Canadians can choose from a plethora of fun, pre-made colour combinations:

Who knew going "green" could be so colorful!??

Are you a  petite coffee drinker, and a small, delicate, 8oz cup would suffice, or... are you like me, and in need of a giant 16oz-er??
What is your Keep Cup style??
Do you have one yet?

I love the bright blue and pink 'Twilight' one in the Cosmic Sky Borealis line.
My morning coffee sure would be a fun pick-me-up in a cup like that!
Tired? Take a look at my AMAZING NEON CUP for 30seconds and feel energized!
GOOD MORNING, WORLD!!

HAHA if only it were that simple!

My fellow Canadians will be pleased to know that Eight Ounce Coffee Ltd. is the Authorized Distributor of Keep Cup here in Canada, and is based out of Calgary, Alberta.

I am just so excited about this product, I wish I could hand them out on the street or on the skytrain to morning commuters, along with stats on disposable cups.
Small changes such as bringing your Keep Cup along with you, can have such a big impact over the years.
Just goes to show that a little really can go a long way.
 It really can.

Just think what would happen, if everyone in your own family or workplace made this one little change.

Well, September has arrived, and with that comes the beginning of school... unschool...homeschool...preschool...whatever you happen to be doing.

Parents everywhere sigh a breath of relief, as the nights begin to get darker earlier, and kids begin to settle back down into some sort of routine. Simultaneously, there is the creeping frustration of figuring out what to do about packed lunches. What to pack? What are the healthy alternatives out there? Which ones are a waste of money??
Which ones are ACTUALLY good for you?
Sometimes going to the grocery store can be overwhelming with all of the "healthy", "organic" items on the market today.
It can feel like such a huge commitment purchasing a $8 bag of Organic, Gluten Free sweet potato chips.
Will you like them? Will your kids like them?
Meh. Better just put them back on the shelf.

Well, I  happened to find a really cool business that takes a lot of that pressure off!
Introducing:

This company delivers a monthly box chalk full of the yummiest healthy snacks, right to your doorstep!!
No more song and dance in the grocery store!
You get to try a whole bunch (10-12) of really cool, sweet and savory items hand-picked and taste tested by the amazing people at SNACKBOX.

Thank you, thank you awesome holistic nutritionist and team members at SNACKBOX for reading all of the labels for me! I appreciate your hard work, as reading labels with three crazy children in the grocery store is usually not very effective!

I love that the SNACKBOX comes with a little pamphlet, showing everything included, how much it retails for, and where to buy. GENIUS!!!
All regular Canadian stores such as: Whole Foods, Planet Organic, Nature's Fare, Thrifty Foods etc.

My husband and kids were SUPER excited to receive the August SNACKBOX, and were not impressed that I was leaving to California the day it arrived. Whoops. I could not believe they waited for me, instead of devouring it, like they wanted to.

Inside was:
King Island 100% Pure Coconut Water
Lundberg Rice Chips
Ener-C
Brothers All Natural Fruit Crisps (Apple)
Rocket Oatmeal
Mya's Crunch - Organic Dark Chocolate

Read more about the August SNACKBOX here:

Their absolute favorites were the kale chips, the snapea crisps, the juicy peach rings, the oatmeal and the dried fruit crisps.
Delicious.
Everything.

I loved that a few of the items included, were things that I had seen at my local grocery store that I had been debating spending the $$ to try out. After trying the samples out, I know now what I would definitely buy again, and what our family might pass on! Love that they are, indeed, healthy snacks, and perfect for school lunches.

Saltwater Sandals

I first discovered Salt Water Sandals while browsing on Instagram, where it seemed like every single one of my friends had a pair (OK, slight exaggeration... but a ton). Each picture I would scroll past, I would find myself awwwww-ing, out loud. Sweet little matching sandals in so many beautiful colours. I just had to find out more.
(try searching #saltwatersandals on IG to see for yourself)

I was even MORE excited to find out that Saltwater has a Canadian Distributor, so I could get a pair delivered right to my doorstep!

 http://www.saltwatersandals.ca/

Like the image boasts, these sandals are not just another pretty shoe!
You can actually wear them into the ocean.
Right into the water.
Through the sand.
Wherever your feet can take you, your Saltwater Sandals can bring you there...
and the best part...
Simply throw them into the washing machine at the end of it all, hang dry, and watch them come out good as new.

It is not hard to see why these have been a Summer staple in America for 60years.
How is Canada only jumping on this wagon NOW??

Kids get the best deal here, and have four different gorgeous styles to choose from:

The Original.

 Adorable, right??

 Browse the Saltwater Lookbook here:

Which colour would you choose??

I would LOOOOVE for the girls and I to get matching RED Saltwater Sandals next year.
There is just something special about wearing bright red shoes, isn't there?
Gives some POP to even the dullest outfit.

Check out this handy sizing guide in order to find the best fit for your little one:
 http://www.saltwatersandals.ca/images/stories/Salt_Water_Canada_Sizing_Guide.pdf

**The Originals DO fit big for Women's sizing, so be sure to order ONE size smaller. **
For example, I usually wear 8-8.5 women's, so I ordered a size 7. I was worried that they would be too small, so I nearly ordered a 8 just in case... I am glad that I listened to the warnings and trusted that they would really be alright because the 7 was absolutely perfect.

Saltwater Sandals Canada, sent me an awesome pair of The Original sandals in WHITE, and I just love them (thank YOU!!).

Made with quality materials: stitched leather sole, extra-thick high grade leather upper and solid brass buckles, these babies are built to last and stay BRIGHT.

They arrived, and honestly, at first, I was like... hmmmm...will these be comfortable?? Then I put them on and was amazed, like seriously amazed. I am usually a flip flop girl, so I made my friend try them on right away so she could see how comfortable they were.
Actually, if you come to my house, chances are I will make you try them on, too...
These sandals move with you, so there is no rubbing, or pinching of the leather on your skin, and your foot doesn't slip around inside the sandal. They feel broken in right from the get go, and although I wore them ALL day the very first day, I had absolutely NO blisters. Seriously, my go-to sandal from here on out. Whoever said not to wear white after labor day, didn't have a pair of these! I will definitely be getting a lot of use out of these still, even with Fall around the corner.
(Especially since it is supposed to be 30 degrees alllll week!)

September SNACKBOX

$

0

We were lucky enough to get to try the SEPTEMBER Snackbox, this month and it was every bit as delicious as the August one.

Once again, my kids and husband were super excited to pick this up from the mailbox, and I had to play mean-mom and make them wait until we got home. SO mean, right??

We opened it up and everyone wanted everything RIGHT AWAY.
We practiced restraint however, and decided to, instead of shoving our faces all at once, try something new every night.

Inside this month's box was:
Dark Chocolate Cherry Cashew + Antioxidants
King Island Coconut Milk
Gimme Organic Seaweed Snack
Mary's Gone Crakers Chocolate Chip Cookie
Home Free Chocolate Chip Cookies
Brothers-All-Natural Pear Fruit Crisps
Nature's Path Q'ia Superfood Cereal - Cranberry Vanilla
Brookside Dark Chocolate Fruit
Rocket Food Apple Berry Oatmeal
Mediterranean Snacks Tapaz 2 Go
Dan-D-Pak Macadamia Sea Salt
Angie's Popcorn, BOOM Chicka Pop

My five year old absolutely LOVED the Rocket Food Apple Berry Oatmeal and actually wanted me to go out and buy more as soon as he had finished it.
We love oatmeal for breakfast, especially once the mornings start getting colder. Nothing warms you up and keeps you full like a big, warm bowl of yummy oatmeal... and how much more tasty is it when it is sprinkled with delicious fruit?? So good.
Fast, healthy, and absolutely delicious.
I actually was able to bribe him to clean his room with this oatmeal... it's just that yummy.
Haha!

Another giant hit, was the Mediterranean Snacks Tapaz 2 Go.
If you are looking for an awesome snack on the run, this is it.

Gluten-free lentil crackers and a giant portion of hummus.
And when I say giant, I mean giant.
My friend's little guy devoured all of the crackers with heaps of hummus, and there was STILL some leftover even after all of the crackers were done.

Perfect for road-trips, packed lunches, or storing in your desk at work for emergencies.

Another perfectly guilt-free snack option... I told you... this box is chalk full of them!!!

 Who doesn't love popcorn??
And the fact there are only three ingredients:
Popcorn, Sunflower Oil, Sea Salt.

100% awesome, all the time. This I was able to sneak away and eat all to myself.
My only complaint??
That the bag was not the giant Costco sized one...

Being new to this whole "packing-school-lunches" thing, I am so grateful to Snackbox for introducing us to so many healthy, and yummy snack options.
We are a "snacky" family.
We have actually already gone out and purchased a few things that we liked from the August Snackbox, and since my brother and his fiance JUST got married a few weeks ago... I am thinking of signing them up for a Snackbox subscription. They live downtown Vancouver, in a 600ft apartment... they have everything they need... except a SNACKBOX delivery! Haha. No, but honestly. It is the gift that keeps on giving, really.
Not only do you get an awesome parcel in the mail each month, but you learn about, and get to taste test, a bunch of really cool products!
Win/win if you ask me!
Especially for those looking for local, delicious, and nutritious snacks!
I know I would be excited if someone signed me up for a monthly subscription!!

SO.

KicKee Pants

I love Kickee Pants.
Seriously.
I really do.

I have never felt a cozier, silkier, softer pajama.

I adore the fact that Kickee Pants now offers a line of Women's clothing/pajamas, AND has a Canadian Distributor, so KicKee Pants are even MORE accessible.
Can you hear the angels singing!??!?!

I sure can.

Last year, I did a review on Kickee Pants and was SOOOOO excited to be able to do another.
This time I was able to try a few different things:
Lucky ME!!!

The Adult Nightgown in Lotus Floral
http://www.kickeepants.com/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=41318&idcategory=121

I could not get my new jammies in the wash and onto my body fast enough.
I wish that it was acceptable to wear jammies all the live long day because I totally would do it.
I am so not exaggerating, once these are on... you really do not want to wear real clothes.

What feels better than silky, smooth fabric against your skin while you are sleeping??
 95% Bamboo Viscose, 5% Lycra = 100% awesome.
This nightgown moves with you!
I love the maxi length, too especially for keeping my legs covered while I am up late working, or up early with crazy kids.
The ruffled edge on the top and straps add such a pretty little detail, too.

 Print Ruffle Footie With Paws
 http://www.kickeepants.com/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=39017&idcategory=117

These are my favorite pajamas to put on my daughter. I love the adorable ruffled accents, the mittens you can flip over, the fleece lined footies and how soft and cozy my baby feels when she is in them. Who doesn't love snuggling a soft little, sleepy babe?? These pajamas are the perfect weight for keeping baby completely temperate, not too hot, not too cold... juuuuust right.

Short Sleeve Pajama Set in Lotus Camel
http://www.kickeepants.com/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=51961&idcategory=61

Camel jammies!!!
I have a soft spot in my heart for footie pajamas, but the two piece ones are super handy for bigger kids and midnight potty trips.
What is with two piece pajamas?? You put them on and they instantly transform your baby into a big kid. Seriously??? My Cupcake-girl, loves that she looks just like her big brother when she wears two-piece jammies. Super soft, easy to pull on and off, and stretchy enough to move with your wild child, make these pajamas definitely some of our favorites. My babe especially loves that there are no itchy tags, or tight waist bands!

Boys' Print Long Sleeve Polo in River Stripe
http://www.kickeepants.com/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=51961&idcategory=61

This long sleeve is made with the same cozy materials as the pajamas.
95% Viscose from bamboo, 5% Spandex
Silky against the body, and equally as stylish.
Perfect for fall, this shirt is going to be worn a lot in Kindergarten by my handsome little man.

Can you say, SPOILED!?!?
My kids and I were SO excited to receive this amazingly sweet care-package from KicKee Pants.

THANK YOU!!!
Thank you,
and
THANK YOU!!!!

Some of the HUGE reasons I like KicKee Pants for my family:
- fabric is NOT treated with flame retardants
-fabric is smooth and silky against my babies' skin
- patterns are bright, fun, and interesting
- styles are fitted, not loose
- the extra details such as the fleece inner footie liner, the ruffled bum
- the amazingly, GIANT selection of awesomeness

Which do you like best???
http://www.kickeepants.com/shop/pc/home.asp

It is so hard to choose, because, like I said before... there are just SO many awesome options.
If you are in the market for awesome staples such as onesies, rompers, sleepers, pajamas, hoodies, pants, shirts etc., you are in the right place. ESPECIALLY, when getting layette together for a newborn. Mmm... so cozy!

A few of MY faves:

Bright colours, fun patterns, simple styles, and 100% fun.
The styles are inspired by the very own KicKee Pants' children, and designed to move, bend, and dance with them.
No one knows children better than parents themselves.
If I were able to design pajamas for my family, they would definitely feel like these.
